Free training to help your business prosper

Fabriam Learning and Tyne Metropolitan College have linked up in a unique partnership to offer FREE training for Business Improvement Techniques (BIT) and Performing Manufacturing Operations (PMO) at NVQ Level 2.

This partnership is an approved deliverer of Train to Gain funded training and is supported by the Learning and Skills Council (LSC).

Train to Gain

These training programmes are funded through Train to Gain, which is a national service designed to help businesses get the training they need to succeed.

Train to Gain has been launched across England by the Learning and Skills Council and is a development from the highly successful Employer Training Pilots.

It can help businesses improve their productivity and competitiveness by ensuring their staff have the right skills to perform at the highest level.

Free training

This training is free to any size of organisation (large, medium or small) that meets the Train to Gain eligibility requirements.

In addition, companies with fewer than 50 employees may qualify for a contribution to wage costs.

Contact us to discuss the eligibility criteria in more detail.

National qualification (NVQ)

National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) are practical qualifications based on being able to do a job. They are achieved through assessment and training and demonstrate an employee’s competence, skill and knowledge to do the job to industry standards.

NVQs are achieved through a combination of work based assessment and the building of a portfolio to show progression. The candidate assessment process will be primarily conducted “on-the-job”, where naturally occurring performance evidence will be gathered.

NVQs contribute to the development of a skilled workforce and recognise the competence of the people who make up the workforce at all levels. These training programmes are funded through Train to Gain, which is a national service designed to help businesses get the training they need to succeed.

Business Improvement Techniques (BIT) and Performing Manufacturing Operations (PMO)

These training programmes are primarily at NVQ level 2, although employers should contact us to discuss the availability and subsidy of training at other levels.

BIT

Business Improvement Techniques is suitable for any company looking for performance improvement, not just manufacturers. Individuals are trained to involve themselves, through effective team working, in techniques in continuous improvement to create a whole organisational approach to improving the business.

BIT demonstrates how eliminating waste, reducing variation and preventing defects through managing quality and process flows, can dramatically improve business performance. It covers up-to-date management thinking from 5S (work place organisation) to Kaizen (continuous improvement).

PMO

Performing Manufacturing Operations is suitable for those seeking recognition of their competence in one or more of a wide range of manufacturing activities including shaping, assembly, processing, forming, finishing, joining, moulding, packaging, receiving and handling materials, process control, quality and inspection etc.

Proven BIT and PMO benefits for companies

Both courses acknowledge there is always room for improvement at work, whether major changes or fine-tuning. The courses provide a range of tools to help your employees identify what needs improving and how to improve it.

Improvements to your business may include:

  • better business performance to assist in winning contracts
  • reduced costs and waste
  • maximised profits and revenues
  • development of a company culture that is focused on the benefits of continuous improvement
  • improved employee morale and motivation
  • assistance with recruitment and retaining employees
  • a safer, more organised workplacethat helps to reduce workplace accidents
  • highlighting the skill of the workforce to existing and potential customers
  • staying ahead of the competition

Benefits for employees

The training allows employees to:

  • gain a nationally recognised qualification
  • improve their career development and promotion opportunities
  • have formally recognised skills to carry out a particular job
  • have a sense of achievement
  • complete the qualification at their own pace

The training specifically lets employees:

  • continually deliver improvements in efficiency and quality, alongside cost reductions
  • gain an awareness of the most up-to-date management thinking
  • learn to identify what needs improving, how to get to the root cause of a problem and how to go about improving it
  • achieve a safer organised workplace
  • identify step change improvements (small things, but lots of them that can add up to a big return)
  • think more for themselves, to be more aware of their opportunities for improvement and to be empowered to make the changes needed
